Never Forget 9/11
"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do." - Henry Ford
As I prepare to pass the baton to our new Incoming President Jim McComb on October 1, I want to thank everyone for a truly great year at the Beaches Kiwanis Club. Our annual Fletcher H.S. Scholars Breakfast and Scholarship Awards were a huge success on May 20, as we recognized 25 graduating seniors and their parents and awarded two $1500.00 scholarships to deserving Fletcher seniors Gary Corwin Shaw and Cesar Jesus Sanchez.
For Christmas in July we partnered with the Jacksonville Suns to host a fun baseball outing for 10 future leaders from the Sulzbacher Center Homeless Shelter. Each child had their name announced and got to run out onto the field and stand next to the Suns players during the national anthem, and they each got to enjoy a hot dog, chips, a soft drink, and a sundae, as the Suns won 4-1.
Beaches Kiwanis members helped provide much-needed items and supplies for the Mission House Christmas in July event, and also provided manpower for the big BEAM (Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry) Back to School backpack give-away in early August. We also collected and sent over $300 to the Kiev Kiwanis Club to assist them in their efforts to help children in war-torn Ukraine.
In addition to the 3 new members welcomed in March and April, we are thrilled to welcome 3 MORE new members Bob Burch, Traci Talley, and Don Drummond to our ranks this summer. If you d like to join us or just learn more about the Beaches Kiwanis, please join us as our guest at an upcoming meeting on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month, join us for a Happy Hour from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, or contact me personally. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you!
Sincerely, Dennis Eller, President
